Ensure you have enough run back (for when the gate is open). Typically you require at least 500mm more than the opening size for a tracked gate. For a cantilever, it is typically 40% more than the opening size.   Installing A Sliding Gate With the correct preparation a sliding gate install can be relatively easy. Levels are important - take the levels across the driveway (does it rise or fall left/right?). Also, the levels into the run back area (where the sliding gate opens).
